PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Through a course of study as part of the Piano/Keyboard lab, the instructor will provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth within music education.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:    

Bachelor's degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/level assigned (EC12 Music OR EC6 Generalist/CORE)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of assigned curriculum; knowledge of instructional methods

Lesson planning and presentation skills

Strong organizational interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

Conflict resolution skills

Classroom management skills

Excellent collaboration skills

Strong technology skills applicable to the classroom

 

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Standing for prolonged periods of time, sitting; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including keyboarding; reaching

Lifting: Lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)

Environment: Must be able to work with frequent interruptions; maintain professional demeanor under stress; Occasional after school/nighttime activities; acute and/or corrected vision and hearing capabilities

Travel: Occasional district-wide travel

 Regular attendance is an essential function.   

           

Minimum Experience:

Must meet Texas Educator certification standards

Training in or knowledge of Kodaly preferred

Training in or knowledge of Orff preferred

           

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

1.  Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program appropriate for developmental piano/keyboard lab instruction at the Elementary Grade level and show written evidence of preparation as required.

2.  Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.

3.  Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

4.   Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.

5.   Cooperatively meet and plan with other members of the staff to implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.

6.   Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).

7.   Employ the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

8.   Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.

9.   Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative assessments and provide progress reports as required.

10.  Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the school.

11.  Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.

12.  Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.

13.  Establish effective classroom management and administer discipline in accordance with board policies, administrative regulations, and campus management plans.

14.  Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

15.  Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

16.  Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.

17.  Maintain a positive and professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members through effective communication both verbally and written.

18.  Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

19.  Participate in the district staff development program.

20.  Participate and positively contribute to grade level and campus level collaboration.

21.  Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.

22.  Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

23.  Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations.

24.  Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

25.  Attend and participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities and serve on staff committees as required.

26.  Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

27.  Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.

28.  Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
