PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide psycho-educational assessments of students with disabilities while collaborating with staff, students, and parents to provide support and direct services for students with disabilities who are experiencing emotional/behavioral problems.

This position is supplemental to locally funded positions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, or eligible for licensure OR

Licensed Psychological Associate, or eligible for licensure

                                               

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to administer in-depth psycho-educational assessments

Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, & learning  theories

Ability to interpret data and solve problems of different complexities

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

       

WORK CONDITIONS

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, prolonged use of computer

Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours

 Environment: Exposure to biological hazards; requires district-wide travel, some statewide and out of state travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; ability to problem solve, interpret data and acquire and apply new skills and knowledge; ability to resolve conflicts; ability to adapt and be flexible in multiple environments

Regular attendance is an essential function

                                                                                                                                               

Minimum Experience:

Experience working with and assessing students who have emotional disturbances and/or autism.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Administer in-depth psycho-educational assessments to students referred to special education
  2. Interpret data from assessments and write reports for students referred to special education
  3. Consult with parents concerning the behavioral needs of their student
  4. Provide behavioral strategies to staff concerning their students
  5. Serve as a member of ARD committees in developing behavioral strategies
  6. Provide psychological consultations
  7. Provide staff development
  8. Follow all Federal and State guidelines, policies and laws, AISD Board Policy, and the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned
